Which Kawasaki Vulcan models have 6th gear and why do some have fewer?

I'm looking at Kawasaki Vulcan rides, and I'm wondering which models have that sweet 6th gear. Also, why do some Vulcans have fewer gears? Is it about how the engine works, how we ride, or what? Let me know what you think. I'm curious to hear your thoughts and stories.

The 900s and 1700s usually stick with 5 speeds, while Vulcan 650 S and Voyager/Vaquero touring models get the 6th. It's mostly about engine design and intended use, the cruisers are tuned for low end torque so 5 gears is plenty, but the touring bikes and sporty 650 benefit from that overdrive for highway cruising.

Thread stranger alert! Sorry I just gotta ask. @Dora.d.driver That makes sense. So the extra gear is really about making long rides smoother rather than raw power, right?

@vulcan4ccessoryking Pretty much what @Dora.d.driver said. It comes down to torque and how the bike’s meant to be ridden, cruisers don’t really need a 6th unless you’re doing a lot of highway miles.
