2004 kawasaki vulcan VN800 can't start

my coworker just told me that he snagged a Vulcan for around five hundred bucks!

Ikr, how can the price is super cheap? Well, it wasn't running.

Only fired up with starting fluid. So, he threw in a carb kit, new petcock, and fresh gas.

It started using some gas and less starter fluid, but still croaked after a few seconds.

I'm helping him with this, so, does anyone got a clue what to do next before I told him to take it to a repair shop? Thanks!

Carb issue for sure. Might wanna check the float level or clean out any gunk stuck in the jets before spending more money. If it still dies quickly, could be a vac leak or timing issue. Def worth a quick check before that repair shop visit.
